This product is also available for gifts and real apothecary pleasure bottled in beautiful violet glass apothecary bottles, which looks black but is actually deepest deepest violet and blocks out all light except the ultra violet. This protects your herbs, ointments and preparations from bacteria and light damage and helps keep the products as natural as possible.

A soporific, calming sleep aid tea, naturally caffeine free.

Directions: either fill a tea pot with freshly boiled water and a teaspoon or so Valerian per cup and steep for a good 5 minutes
Place a teaspoon or so of the tea for each cup in an enamel pan (metal pans can interfere with the herbs!) and boil up for about 3 minutes.
As always ! Strain the tea when pouring yourself a lovely cup.
Or to be blended with other herbs.

Ingredients:Organic Valerian Root.

Valerian has been used for centuries and supported human beings in reducing anxiety, stress, tension, irritability, and insomnia.
Most of valerian’s effects are attributed to the interaction of its constituents with the GABA receptor. Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is a neurotransmitter that sends chemical messages through the brain and nervous system. Its role is to inhibit or reduce the activity of neurons or nerve cells. In large enough quantities GABA can cause a sedative effect – Valerian root has been shown to increase GABA levels in the brain which can in turn not only reduce the amount of time taken to fall asleep, it can also improve the quality of sleep too. It does this by binding to GABA receptors in the amygdala, the region of the brain involved in fear and emotional responses to stress. This produces a calming effect similar to benzodiazepines (anti-anxiety drugs), which is why valerian has been called “nature’s valium”.
The aforementioned GABA also helps to calm anxiety with its regulation of nerve cells. The valerenic acid and valerenol contained in the Valerian root act as anti-anxiety agents, stabilising the central nervous system. The improved GABA levels make it easier for the mind and body to relax, meaning Valerian root can also help to keep your stress levels down – significantly helping with daily stress management.
Valerian appears to work directly on the nervous system as a natural pain reliever.
Naturally sedative and antispasmodic, Valerian root acts as a powerful muscle relaxant and can be especially helpful in easing menstrual cramps. It can effectively calm the severe uterine muscle contractions experienced by some women during menstruation.
Extensive studies have found that GABA also regulates blood pressure. Properly regulated blood pressure has a direct positive impact on the health of the heart, with high blood pressure increasing the risk of a heart attack or stroke.
